Family Lake Escape

Ariel View of Wade Pool and Splash Park

Looking for an easy family getaway that does not require taking time off work or spending hours on the road? Pack the vehicle, leave after work on Friday and settle in for a relaxing weekend at Sedgewick Lake Park. With campsites for tents and trailers, as well as cabins available to rent, families can choose the stay that works best for them and be home again by Sunday evening.

Friday: Settle In and Slow Down

Arrive Friday evening, set up your campsite or cabin and get ready for a fun few days together.

Once everyone is settled, gather around the campfire for a relaxed evening of roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. As the sky gets darker, look up and enjoy the stars away from the bright lights of the city. Sedgewick Lake is also a beautiful place to watch for the northern lights when conditions are right.

Saturday Morning: Play, Shop, Explore

Start Saturday morning with some time at the playground before heading over to the outdoor market at the on-site cook shack. Browse a variety of vendors offering fresh baking, plants, vegetables and other locally made or grown goods.

After the market, explore the area on foot or by bike. A paved trail winds around the lake and connects to another paved route leading into the Town of Sedgewick, only a short distance away.

While in town, stop at The Country Cupboard Farm Store for a farm tour and pick up some locally grown ingredients or snacks to enjoy later in the day.

Saturday Afternoon: Make a Splash

Bike or walk back to the lake for an afternoon at the splash park and wading pool, conveniently located side by side.

The shallow, child-friendly wading pool is maintained at approximately 78°F, making it a refreshing but comfortable place to cool off. There is no lifeguard on duty, so children must be supervised at all times. Lifejackets are also encouraged for added safety.

Spread out a blanket on the surrounding green space or use one of the nearby picnic tables to create a comfortable home base for the afternoon. Showers and change rooms are located next to the wading pool, making it easy to clean up before continuing your day.

Once everyone is finished swimming, stop at Skeeter’s Bites for an ice cream or another sweet treat.

Saturday Evening: Dinner and Time by the Lake

Head back to your campsite and prepare dinner using some of the fresh ingredients you picked up at The Country Cupboard.

After supper, take advantage of the quieter evening by exploring Sedgewick Lake by kayak, canoe or paddleboard. While the lake is not ideal for swimming, it is a peaceful spot for paddling and enjoying the scenery from the water. Families who prefer to stay on land can take a leisurely walk around the quiet campground or along the paved lakeside trail.

End the day gathered around the campfire, sharing stories and enjoying another relaxing evening outdoors.

Sunday: One Last Splash

Enjoy a relaxed Sunday morning at the campground. While one person begins packing up, the rest of the family can squeeze in one last visit to the splash park or wading pool.

Once camp is packed, hit the road and arrive home by Sunday evening, refreshed and ready for the week ahead.

A weekend at Sedgewick Lake Park offers everything families need for a quick summer escape: camping, cabins, local food, outdoor recreation, swimming and plenty of time together, all without travelling far from home.
