A Summer Day in Forestburg

Cool off, shop local and enjoy a full day of family fun in Forestburg. This self-guided summer itinerary combines an afternoon at the outdoor pool with a picnic lunch, pizza and a well-earned ice cream treat.

Start with the Essentials

Begin your day at Coutts Home Hardware, where you can pick up everything you may need for an afternoon in the sun. Browse for water toys, sunscreen, mosquito spray, a cooler, lawn chairs and a few extra summer toys to keep everyone entertained.

Coutts Home Hardware is located at 4813 50 Street and is open Monday through Saturday.

Perfect Poolside Lunch

Next, stop at Moore’s Shop Easy Foods and fill your cooler with fresh food, cold drinks and plenty of snacks. Pick up everything you need to build sandwiches, wraps or an easy picnic lunch the whole family will enjoy. The locally owned grocery store offers fresh produce, bakery items and a full meat department.

Not interested in adding meal preparation to your day? Place an order with CJ’s Deli and Restaurant and let them take care of lunch. This long-time Forestburg business has been serving the community since 1985.

Dive into an Afternoon of Fun

With the cooler packed and swimsuits ready, head to the Forestburg Millennium Swimming Pool.

On weekdays, families can begin with family swim from noon to 1 p.m., followed by public swim from 1 to 4 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, public swim runs from 1 to 9 p.m.

The refreshing 25-metre outdoor pool has something for swimmers of different ages and comfort levels, including a rope swing, diving board, pool toys, a leisure area for younger children and a hot tub. The outdoor facility is typically open from May through September.

Pool schedules can change because of lessons, swim meets, weather or special events. Check the Forestburg Swimming Pool’s latest schedule before travelling.

Poolside Picnic

When everyone is ready for a snack, dry off and head just outside the fenced pool area. Spread out on the grass, find some shade beneath the gazebo and enjoy the lunch you packed or picked up earlier.

After everyone has refueled, head back into the pool for another round of swimming, splashing and relaxing in the hot tub.

Finish the Day with Pizza and Ice Cream

After an afternoon in the water, wrap up your Forestburg adventure with pizza and ice cream. Order your favourite pizza from Cedar’s Pizza and Steakhouse, located at 4203 53 Street, and enjoy supper in the restaurant or take it to go for the drive home. While waiting for your order, stop at Canco Forestburg Gas Station for a scoop of Foothills Creamery ice cream. It is a sweet and satisfying way to end a sunny summer day in the Flagstaff Region.

Plan your Pool Day

This itinerary is best enjoyed on a warm day from Monday through Saturday, when all of the suggested shopping stops are more likely to be open. On Sunday visitors can still enjoy the pool, pizza and ice cream, but should purchase their picnic supplies and summer essentials before arriving.

Remember to bring: swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, mosquito spray, water bottles, hats, lawn chairs and a cooler.
